LISBON - Benfica midfielder Pablo Aimar expressed pride in the inspiration of the game Barcelona striker Lionel Messi.
Messi had no prior claim to idolized players, but when I saw Aimar was in action with his club, Valencia, winning the Ballon d'Or 2011 will enjoy performances Aimar.
"When I was 13 or 14 years, I like to watch Aimar. He is brilliant, I enjoyed watching him play," Messi said about Aimar, and 32-year-old player was honored to be a player who idolized Messi.
"He (Messi) is the best player in the world, perhaps in history, and to hear him praised my game is incredible," said Aimar, as quoted in the official UEFA website on Friday (10/02/2012).
In addition, Aimar also said, when he was young, he was compared to the big players, but he cautioned that the players who still have a long career to not be lulled by praise.
"False humility is worse than vanity. I've compared with some big names. This is not something that we aspire or expect, but it will make us convince ourselves," he explained.
Aimar began his professional career with River Plate and Valencia also had costumed and Real Zaragoza before joining Benfica in 2008.
