LONDON - A collector of fossils in East Sussex, England, have discovered a fossil of one of the world's smallest dinosaurs, scientists said.
As quoted by AFP on Sunday (19/06/2011), the paleontologist at the University of Portsmouth studied the fossil of a dinosaur dinosaur-shaped, measuring 33 to 40 cm.
Scientists say that the creature is derived from the Mesozoic era approximately 250 million years ago.
Fossils, published in the journal Cretaceous Research, found by David Brockhurst, aged 51 years, in the Ashdown Brickworks near Bexhill.
Paleontologists gave nicknames such animal as 'Ashdown Maniraptorian', but experts still must examine further whether the animals were carnivores or omnivores.
"This fossil represents the smallest ever dinosaur finds in the fossil record of Europe," said Steve Sweetman of the University of Portsmouth.
Experts say that dinosaurs are similar to the type maniraptorian, namely a group of theropods which includes birds and other animals like birds.
