Sydney - Founder Julian Assange WikiLeaks sites has led to anger the United States government to release thousands of secret U.S. diplomatic wire. However, an Australian non-profit organization providing peace award to the man.
Assange won the award for "exceptional courage in the pursuit of human rights. " Assange get a gold medal organization Sydney Peace Foundation in London, England.
This makes Assange as the fourth person to win the award in the 14-year history that the peace institute. Sydney Peace Foundation is affiliated with the University of Sydney, supported by City of Sydney.
Before Assange, figures who received the award include Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama.
Assange touted as the man who dared to reveal the "secrets of governments around the world that hides the fact that the people's right to know, and going on since centuries ago. "
"We think the struggle for peace with justice must involve conflict, and inevitably involves a controversy," said foundation director, Professor Stuart Rees as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, Wednesday (11/05/2011).
According to him, Assange and WikiLeaks has revealed facts according to rules of journalism and freedom of information and political struggle.
