79 New Species Discovered in Indonesia Deepest Sea

JAKARTA - Expedition seabed mapping surveys and conducted oceanographic ships Baruna Jaya with NOAA vessel Okeanos Explorer (USA) found 79 new species in the sea in Indonesia.
"Expedition for 30 days had found 79 new species of marine life, taken from a depth of 1,000 meters," said Central Library Marzan A Iskandar, head of BPPT, on the show 'Live from the seafloor: A Dynamic Look at the USA-Indonesia Science 7 Technology Partnership' in @ America, Pacific Place, Jakarta, Friday (1/7/2011).
Dr. Jane Lubchenco, Deputy Trade Affairs U.S. Marine and Atmosphere, who is also Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), said that the expedition 2010 and then they managed to discover many new species, as well as several underwater volcanoes.
"Indonesia has a wealth of biological Sea in the world but few of them are known," said Jane.
Marzan Iskandar explained that the expedition carried out since June 2010, there were two boats involved in the ship's Varuna Jaya Indonesia and NOAA vessel Okeanos Explorer owned by the U.S..
"On the ship Baruna Jaya, there were two representatives from NOAA experts, on the contrary, in the ship Okeanos there were two representatives from BPPT," said Marzan Iskandar.
Unfortunately, the 79 new species can not be published, because it must pass a series of tests.
"But these findings will be announced before the index began in 2011," said Marzan.
Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Fadel Muhammad, was also very pleased with this discovery.
"Through this cooperation we can get a lot of new data will our oceans. Earlier we do not have data for the seas of Indonesia with a depth of 6 thousand meters.
