National Review - Representatives of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus expressed disappointment in the jury’s verdict in the George Zimmerman trial, with one likening the public reaction to the national outrage at the aquittal of Casey Anthony.
“I think it was the same kind of response when the Casey Anthony jury came back,” representative Chaka Fattah told CNN’s Candy Crowley. A jury in 2011 found Anthony not guilty of murdering her 2-year-old daugher Caylee, who had been found dead in 2008.
Fattah raised the prospect that the verdict will lead to heightened violence against the black community. “This gentleman will have his gun back or others like him could go out and do the same thing tomorrow with the belief that our criminal-justice system has said that’s perfectly fine,” he said.
On Saturday night a six-member, all-female jury found Zimmerman not guilty of second-degree murder in case of Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old African American he shot and killed in February 2012.
