BANGKOK - Although only be held in November 2012, but the drawing for the AFF Cup 2012 was held in Bangkok, Thailand this afternoon.
Malaysia and Thailand are designated as co-hosts occupies a pot, which means they would fill a different group. Thailand are in Group A while Malaysia in Group B.
While Indonesia and Vietnam fill the pot 2 respectively, are also entered into a different group, the Red and White occupies a Group B, which means it will be in the same group as hosts Malaysia. Vietnam itself automatically go directly to the Group A pre-existing host Thailand.
In the third pot, there are AFF Cup winners 2004 and 2007, Singapore, as well as AFF Cup 2010 semi-finalists, the Philippines. Singapore will be grouped with Malaysia and Indonesia in Group B, while the Philippines joined in Group A with Thailand and Vietnam.
Because there are only four teams in one group in the AFF Cup 2012, the countries of Southeast Asia (ASEAN) is left as, Myanmar, Timor Leste, Cambodia, Laos, and Brunei Darussalam have to go through the qualification phase to qualify for the 2012 AFF Cup.
Five state qualifiers will be held at the Youth Training Centre, Myanmar from 5 October with a round-robin system. Only the group winners and runners-up qualify for the 2012 AFF Cup in Thailand and Malaysia.
Group winners qualifying phase will be in Group A with Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, while the runner up will occupy qualifying Group B with Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.
