CAMBRIDGE - Feeling sleepy after eating? Now researchers have discovered the cause of sleepiness. Awake and energy expenditure were dependent on orexin cells.
Cells responsible for sleepiness is also working to burn calories. Tues orexin issued a stimulant called orexin / hypocretin in the brain. The researchers found that the amino acid, namely the nutrients in the egg whites, more able to stimulate nerve orexin compared with other nutrients.
As reported by Medicalxpress, Friday (11/17/2011), Dr. Denis Burdakov from the Department of Pharmacology and Institute of Metabolic Science meengatakan, "The pattern of sleep, health, and body weight are related. Job rotation, as well as lack of proper diet can causing obesity. "
"Impulse electrically released orexin cells stimulate a person to wake up and tells the body to burn calories. We are still wondering whether nutritional diet change impulses," he added.
They found that amino acids stimulate orexin cells. Earlier, their research has found that the glucose blocking orexin work (this is what causes a person sleepy after a meal), then researchers pay attention to the interaction between sugars and proteins. They also found that the amino acids that do stop blocking glucose on orexin cells.
"The interesting thing is to have a rational way to regulate the activation of brain cells by choosing foods to eat," said Dr. Burdakov.
"Not all the brain cells can be regulated by nutrition, diet composition will be decisive," he added.
