Data Center Google Apparently Very Energy Efficient

CALIFORNIA - A recent report on the calculation of energy consumption used by Google Inc., revealed that these firms have a massive network of servers, amounted to 900 thousand units worldwide.

Jonathan Koomey, a professor from Stanford University, published its report on electricity consumption by data centers in 2010. His report mentions that Apple has approximately 900 thousand servers around the world. Similarly, as quoted from the IT Pro Portal, Wednesday (03/08/2011).

Koomey also said that he had previously suspected that the energy consumption of servers Google is huge, considering the number of servers they have throughout the world. But the results were very surprising variety of parties, because Apple uses a highly energy-efficient servers.

Total electricity used by all data centers around the world are 198.8 billion kWh, while Google uses only 220 megawatts, which is calculated by 0.01 percent of total world electricity consumption.

"Because the Google servers that are used are high-tech devices, then the number is less than 1 percent of total world electricity consumption, is a sign that the device is held fairly environmentally friendly," said Koomey.
