Studies: Moon Help Stabilize Planet

WASHINGTON - Computer simulations show that approximately 10 percent of the planets have moons are large, which helps to stabilize the slope of the planet, so says a new report.

As quoted from Scientific American on Monday (6/27/2011), the Moon serves as a counterweight to the Earth. If the moon does not exist, perhaps the position of the Earth will falter. In addition, the moon also serves as a tool to stabilize the climate on Earth.

According to the researchers, the moon formed from the ruins of Mars orbiting the Earth when they were young. Other planets in the solar system have no moon is also Mercury's Venue.

A team of researchers to simulate the formation of hundreds of planets, and they found that nearly half of whom have the same background in a month. Nearly approximately 10 percent of these planets have a large moon, when compared with Earth's moon.

The results of this study states that if a planet like Earth there are quite many in number, they will receive the same benefits, such as balancing the climate and planetary positions.

The study titled 'How Common Are Earth-Moon Planetary Systems? "was published in the scientific journal Icarus.
