BOLOGNA - Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo became a formidable racer in the eyes of Valentino Rossi. However, Ducati had pleaded not flinch against the two young riders to the podium, in MotoGP this year.
It was admitted after seeing the results of the opening MotoGP test at Sepang Circuit 2012, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In these tests, Rossi had to settle for fifth place with a new motor riding GP12.
Rossi, who last season only one time on the podium during his debut on the Ducati, lagging 1.2 seconds off Stoner. However, the former Honda rider was not lagging too far from Dani Pedrosa, the ruler of the third rank.
Between the two Honda riders Jorge Lorenzo was there, which ranks second. While Ben Spies finished in fourth. Looking at the results, Rossi realized the opportunity to finish in third place is more open.
"I agree more open to third rank achieved. For me now, Lorenzo and Stoner is a better driver than me. But, maybe I can still compete with Pedrosa and Spies," said Rossi.
"Can be fought in the battle for the podium would be very exciting for us and it will be a very good start at all," said the Italian driver told Crash.net, Saturday (11/02/2012).
Meanwhile, a second test will take place at the Sepang Circuit, 28 February. After that, a third test will be held at the Jerez Circuit, Spain, before rolling the inaugural race in Qatar, 8 April.
