The Milky Way Color Are We?

PITTSBURGH - Astronomers are attempting to uncover an accurate answer about the color of the Milky Way galaxy. The trick, they analyze it using data and images of nearly a million other galaxies for comparison.

Proclaimed Astronomy Now, on Tuesday (1/17/2012), the color of a galaxy is very important because it can reveal the activity that happens in it. However, for the Milky Way galaxy is a problem because it was in the position of gas and dust enveloped.

"The problem with determining the overall color of the Earth when you just know how to form Pennsylvania," said Jeffrey Newman, professor of physics at the University of Pittsburgh.

The researchers used data and images collected Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). The project has measured nearly a million galaxies, including color. Armed with that information, and by using only the number of galaxies and new stars production rates comparable to the Milky Way, they successfully demonstrated with an accurate range of colors galaxy where Earth resides.

"Our results show that the Milky Way should be near the line dividing the two classifications. This means that our galaxy is one of the brightest spiral galaxies. It also can reveal that now we are heading for the end of the galaxy formation process," said Timothy Licquia of the University of Pittsburgh, as well as co-Newman.

"Several billion years from now, the Milky Way would be a boring place with a red star, leaving only our oldest, and the spiral arms are beautiful," he added.

When lighting levels are low, the human eye does not perceive colors sentsitif. however, the business research group space has now been fruitless. Milky Way galaxy turns completely white. In addition, according to the researchers, the white color of the Milky Way could be said to be white as milk.
