Urine Power Testing in Bristol Success

BRISTOL - Researchers try new ways to produce electricity, this time the test using urine as an alternative to producing electricity. This study took place at the University of The West of England (UWE) in Bristol.

Research paper about the possibility of using urine for microbial fuel Fuel Cells (MFCs) is claimed to be the first in the world.

They claimed that the trials have been successfully produced small amounts of energy, but more research will be able to produce the amount of useful energy. Similarly, as reported by the BBC, Thursday (11/10/2011).

MFCs contain the same bacteria with bacteria in the soil, the human gut, or a water ditch. These bacteria breathe in anaerobic (without oxygen) while removing electrons.

"Urine is rich in chemicals that benefit MFCs," said Dr.. Loannis Leropoulos, head of research.

"Through this research, we can show that the miniaturization and doubling the number of MCFs into a box, and then regulate the flow of urine to it have the possibility to display the size of the potential of generating electricity. For example, for use in a small village." he added.
