Similar Name, Barak Villagers Ask for Help Obama


Bishkek - Feeling desperate to face life's difficulties, the population of a village called Barak, who is on finding solutions nyeleneh Kyrgyzstan. They wrote a letter to the number one United States (U.S.) who have the same first name with the name of their village.

Yes, they decided to write a letter of request for assistance to 'Barack' Obama. More surprisingly, the president replied to the letter and promised to provide assistance to the village. This report from a politician in the Kyrgyz parliament.

Kyrgyzstan is a U.S. strategic partner in Central Asia. It can be one of Obama's consideration to meet the demands of villagers. Village Barak is currently affected by land disputes and difficulties in funding to build a number of hospitals and schools.

"Looks like they hit a sense of despair because the central government was not able to provide support," said a politician named Baktybek Kalmamatov as reported by AFP on Saturday (1/15/2011).

"Obama has received the letter. He even responded, and promised financial assistance," said Kalmamatov. He added that villagers also have set up a foundation to build hospitals, schools and kindergartens.

Politicians from the Liberal party once rebuked Ata Meken Bishkek government which he considered had failed to meet the needs of its own nationals. "(The government) Kyrgyz citizens should be ashamed to ask for help even in another country's president," said Kalamamtov.

Barak said the local language means the leaf in Kyrgyzstan. The village is situated near the border with neighboring Uzbekistan.
